Driver documents that expire, and when to check them

CDLs, medical cards, annual record reviews and Clearinghouse queries all come due on their own schedules. A list by driver keeps everyone legal to drive.

Carriers must keep each driver qualified. Several items expire or must be repeated.

Track for each driver

  • CDL: the expiration date set by the issuing state.
  • Medical examiner's certificate: up to 24 months, often less.
  • Annual driving record review: at least once every 12 months.
  • Clearinghouse query: at least once a year for each driver employed.

Check monthly

Look 30 days ahead, and schedule renewals before a driver is out of service.

Our driver document tracker flags what is coming due and puts it on the back office calendar.
