Accessorials are charges beyond the linehaul rate: lumper fees for unloading, detention for long waits, layovers, truck ordered not used, driver assist and extra stops. They are easy to forget and hard to collect late.
Get it on the rate confirmation
Before you accept, confirm the accessorial terms in writing: free time, the detention rate, who pays the lumper, and the layover and TONU amounts.
Document as it happens
- Arrival and departure times, signed or from the ELD.
- Lumper receipts, with the amount and the load number.
- Messages to the broker when detention starts, and when it ends.
Bill fast, then follow up
Send the accessorial with the invoice, with the receipts attached. Track what was billed and what was paid; brokers often pay the linehaul and leave accessorials open.
Our accessorial log keeps every charge, billed and paid.
