A capabilities statement is a single page that tells a reader who you are, what you do, who you serve and how to reach you. It is standard in government contracting, and just as useful in private business.

What it usually contains

  • A short company overview
  • Core capabilities, stated plainly
  • Differentiators: why choose you over a competitor
  • Company data, such as entity type, location and NAICS codes
  • Contact information

When to use it

Send it after an introduction, attach it to a proposal, leave it after a meeting, or hand it to a procurement office. It answers the questions a busy reader has before they ask.

Keep it to one page

The discipline of a single page forces clarity. If a reader wants more, the website and a conversation can carry the detail.

You can download our capabilities statement as an example.
