Scheduling a deposition is a chain of small tasks, and each one depends on the last. Firms of every size keep them straight with one list per deposition that shows what is done and what is not.
Before the date
- Agree on the date and time with the witness and counsel, and confirm it in writing.
- Prepare and serve the notice or subpoena as counsel directs.
- Book the court reporter, and a videographer if the deposition will be recorded.
- Arrange an interpreter if the witness needs one.
- Reserve the room, or set up and test the video link.
- Prepare and number the exhibits counsel plans to use, with copies for everyone.
The day before
Confirm with the witness, the reporter and opposing counsel. Send the video link again. Check that the exhibits are complete.
After
Order the transcript, track the reading and signing period if it applies, and calendar the date the transcript is expected. When it arrives, a deposition summary makes it usable.
Our deposition scheduler keeps every deposition and what is still open in one list.
