The first call: an intake checklist

The first call with a potential client sets up everything that follows. A checklist makes sure the same facts are gathered every time, for counsel to review.

Counsel decides whether the firm takes a case and gives any legal advice. Intake staff gather facts so counsel can decide quickly.

Gather

  • Name, phone, email and preferred language.
  • What happened, when and where.
  • Who else was involved, and their insurance if known.
  • Injuries and treatment so far.
  • Whether they have talked to an insurer or signed anything.
  • Whether another lawyer is or was involved.
  • How they heard about the firm.

Do not advise

Tell the caller counsel will review and call back, and when.

Our intake checklist keeps the call consistent.
