Keeping clients updated during a long case

Clients who hear nothing for months assume nothing is happening. A regular, short update, approved by counsel, keeps clients calm and cooperative.

Cases take months or years. Much of that time is waiting: for records, for the other side, for the court. Clients do not see the work, so silence feels like neglect.

Set a rhythm

A short call or message every 30 days is common. Counsel decides what is shared and what needs a lawyer's call.

What a good update covers

  • What happened since the last update.
  • What happens next and roughly when.
  • Anything the client needs to do: treatment, records, documents.
  • A reminder to call with questions.

Log it

A log of each update protects the firm and shows the client was kept informed.

Our client update log shows who is due for an update.
