Florida drivers carry personal injury protection (PIP). It generally pays 80% of reasonable medical expenses and 60% of lost income, up to $10,000 per person. Counsel and the insurer apply the rules to each claim.

Key rules to know

  • Initial treatment generally must be received within 14 days after the crash.
  • Benefits are generally limited to $2,500 unless a qualified provider determines the person had an emergency medical condition.
  • Deductibles chosen on the policy reduce what is paid.

Track each bill

  • The provider and date of service.
  • The amount billed and the date sent to the PIP carrier.
  • What PIP paid, and when.

Our PIP tracker shows what has been used and what is left of the limit.
