HIPAA authorizations: sending, signing and expiring

Providers will not release records without a valid authorization. Tracking which ones are signed, sent and still current avoids rejected requests.

A HIPAA authorization lets a provider release a patient's records to someone else, such as the law firm. Federal rules require it to include certain elements, including an expiration date or event.

Track each authorization

  • The client and the provider.
  • The date sent to the client for signature.
  • The date signed.
  • The expiration date or event.
  • The date sent to the provider.

Watch the expiration

A request sent with an expired authorization comes back. Get a new one signed before the old one runs out.

Our authorization tracker flags those about to expire.
