Appliances, electronics, tires and tools often come with a warranty, but claims need proof of purchase and the date.
What to record
- The item, brand and model or serial number.
- Where and when you bought it, and the price.
- When the warranty ends.
- Where the receipt is: a photo, an email folder, a drawer.
Check before you pay for a repair
Before paying for a repair or replacement, check the list. Some credit cards also extend manufacturer warranties.
For the business
Business equipment receipts also support tax records. Keep them with the year's papers.
